Crepes Galore!

It’s been awhile since my last post, but I am back in action! I hope 2017 is treating you well so far. In honor of our geography unit in social studies, Room 102 has been researching, studying and learning about lots of different countries around the world... from Japan to France and everywhere in between. Earlier this week, we joined up with two other third grade classes for a French lesson from a group of Yarmouth High School students. These high school students designed lessons that included numbers one to ten, basic phrases, crepe ingredients and vocabulary. The third graders were beyond excited and many continued practicing these phrases throughout the day.

On Friday, we celebrated these new learnings with a crepe eating party. Each class made their own batter earlier in the day. I was impressed with the student’s ability to measure out ingredients, take turns, work together, and even crack eggs! Only a few eggs were harmed in the making. (See video below.) We joined the other third grade classes in the afternoon to eat our crepes and enjoy a short French youtube video. I’d say the day was a success! Be sure to ask your child about their experience and watch the crepe making video.

Here is the delicious crepe recipe we used. There was no shortage of butter, but isn’t everything better with butter?! Thank you to those who donated ingredients and items for the festivities! :)

1 cup all purpose flour
1 cup milk
1/2 cup lukewarm water
4 large eggs
1/4 cup (1/2 stick) butter, melted
1/8 tsp. salt
3 Tablespoons sugar

Toppings included: blueberries, brown sugar, jam, maple syrup, whipped cream, and sprinkles. All very healthy and sugar free.
